The House of Representatives has today, passed the FCE Dengi Establishment Bill 2023.
You will recall that the Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi had sought the replacement of the Federal College of Education, Pankshin which was upgraded to a full fledged University of Education, by sponsoring a bill for the establishment of Federal College of Education, Dengi towards the end of his first tenure in 2023.
The bill was passed into law by the 9th National Assembly, but due to want of time and other prevailing circumstances, it wasn’t assented to by then President Buhari, thereby necessitating its reenactment by the 10th House of Representatives, as sponsored by Gagdi again.
The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Establish Federal College of Education, Dengi-Kanam, Plateau State to Provide Full time courses, Teaching Instructions and Training in Technology, Applied Science, Arts, Social Sciences, Humanities and Management and other Related Matters (HB 35)”, received the node of the committee of whole, after going through all rudiments of legislative enactments.
With the passage of the Bill by the House of Representatives, the first huddle has been successfully crossed, awaiting concurrence by the Senate before being submitted to President Tinubu for his assent.
Reacting to the development, Rt Hon. Gagdi was full of gratitude for his colleagues for the seamless passage of the Bill and assured that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that the institution comes to live, leveraging on Tinubu administration’s resolve to put Nigeria’s educational advancement on the world map.
Gagdi maintains that achieving every giant stride begins with taking a bold step of faith, and that the dream of replacing the upgraded FCE with another one within his constituency is his next legislative agenda, which he shall pursue with everything within him.
