A tragic accident in the early hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, has claimed the lives of eight students of the University of Jos. The students were reportedly returning from a night out when their bus was involved in a fatal crash along the Zaria Road corridor in Jos.
According to information gathered from two surviving passengers—who sustained only minimal injuries—the group had hired two buses after leaving a club around 2:00 a.m. The survivors, seated at the back of one of the buses, explained that the impact barely reached their section, allowing them to escape with limited harm.
They narrated that just after passing the Zaria Road Stadium, a speeding trailer rammed into their bus from behind. The force of the collision caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle careening into an electric pole near the Farin Gada bridge. The violent impact reportedly tore the bus apart, resulting in the instant death of the driver and seven students.
Grim video footage provided by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the mortuary confirms the severity of the accident, showing severely disfigured bodies and catastrophic injuries.
The second bus hired by the students was not involved in the crash and safely transported the remaining passengers back to their destination.
The driver of the trailer fled the scene and remains unidentified and untraceable as of the time of filing this report.
This tragic incident has thrown the University of Jos community into mourning.
