Hajiya Riyan Adamu Charity Foundation Enroll 300 Jos North Residents into Health Insurance Scheme

    0

The Hajiya Riyan Adamu Charity Foundation has partnered with the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA). Their joint initiative provides free health insurance for over 300 residents of Jos North.

The program is sponsored by Hon. Dr. Adamu Aliyu, the Member representing Jos North-North. It is specifically aimed at improving access to affordable healthcare for the community.

Foundation Coordinator Aliyu Muwaffak Gudus explained the support was initiated to ease the burden of healthcare costs. He stated that many in Jos North struggle to afford basic drugs, which prompted this intervention.

Gudus added that the initiative targets grassroots communities where people often lack proper healthcare access. He said it reflects a genuine commitment to ensuring vulnerable residents can get medical care.

Josh Dagean, Head of Enrollment at PLASCHEMA, disclosed the foundation purchased premiums worth ₦12,000 per beneficiary. This covers a full year of enrollment, giving access to highly subsidized healthcare services.

Dagean noted the beneficiaries include people with diabetes, sickle cell disease, disabilities, and pregnant women. Enrollees will pay only 10% of medical costs, with the insurance covering the remaining 90%.

Hon. Dr. Adamu Aliyu presented insurance cards to beneficiaries at the unveiling. He said his background as a civil servant helped him appreciate how health insurance can reduce suffering.

He praised the health insurance program, introduced under former Governor Simon Bako Lalong. He also commended efforts to strengthen the initiative through legislation.

Godwin Okechukwu from the Forum of Desk Officers for Health Insurance advised beneficiaries to use the scheme responsibly. He clarified that it excludes cases like domestic violence injuries or accidents from risky adventures.

Mrs. Joe Bukar, wife of a Plateau State Assembly member, applauded the foundation and Hon. Dr. Adamu Aliyu. She called on other lawmakers to emulate this example in addressing healthcare needs.

Beneficiary Saratu Babaji, Women Leader of Angwan Rogo/Rimi, praised Hajiya Riyan Adamu as kind and devoted. She described both her and Dr. Aliyu as exemplary leaders.

Another beneficiary, Sani Aliwal Hassan, commended the program as a welcome idea. He urged other stakeholders to emulate the gesture to support the needy in society.

DSS Arraigns 9 Suspects Linked to Plateau, Benue Killings

    0

The Federal Government, through the Department of State Services (DSS), has filed multiple charges against nine suspects accused of complicity in recent deadly attacks that rocked Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State and parts of Plateau State.

According to separate charges lodged before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the violent attacks left over 40 persons dead, many others injured, and hundreds displaced across the two states.

The DSS, in one of the charges, alleged that the June 13, 2025, attacks in Abinsi and Yelwata villages of Benue State were carried out by Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from Awe LGA of Nasarawa State, in connivance with other suspects still at large.

Those also fingered in the Benue attacks include Musa Beniyon, Bako Malowa, Ibrahim Tunga, Asara Ahnadu, Legu Musa, Adamu Yale, Boddi Ayuba, and Pyeure Damina. They were listed in a charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/449/2025, endorsed by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Muhammad Abubakar.

The suspects were accused of committing offences punishable under sections 12 and 29 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

In a separate three-count charge, two other suspects, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede, both of Guma LGA, were accused of carrying out reprisal attacks in Abinsi and Yelwata. The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/448/2025, stated that they participated in a meeting which led to terrorist acts that caused the destruction of property and the economic loss of 12 cattle in Ukpam village.

The DSS further alleged that in July 2025, the duo conspired in Daudu town, Guma LGA, to carry out terrorist activities, receiving material assistance, including AK-47 rifles and locally made guns from one Alhaji Uba, in contravention of section 13 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.

Also, a 32-year-old woman, Halima Haliru Umar from Faskari LGA of Katsina State, was slammed with a four-count charge of terrorism. She was accused of transporting 302 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition to bandits and concealing information about a suspected gunrunner, Alhaji Sani.

In another charge, a 75-year-old man, Nanbol Tali, and Timnan Manjo were accused of illegally buying and selling two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles for N3 million. They also allegedly purchased revolvers from a supplier to resell to bandits, in violation of the Firearms Act 2024.

Similarly, one Danjuma Antu of Jos North LGA was arraigned on a five-count charge for unlawful possession of two locally fabricated pistols, while Silas Iduh Oloche of Agatu LGA, Benue State, faced six counts for possessing 18 firearms (grenades) and 683 rounds of live ammunition.

The DSS noted that all the offences contravened sections of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act, 2024. No date has yet been fixed for the arraignment of the defendants.

The Berom Women Development Association (BEWDA), Gyel District, has taken another bold step in strengthening women’s leadership by electing a fresh team of executives to pilot its affairs. The election was conducted peacefully, with members showing unity and commitment to the association’s goals.

At the top of the new executive team is Mary Peter, who emerged as the Chairperson. She will be supported by Jummai Monday, elected as Deputy Chairperson, as both leaders are expected to provide direction and mobilize women for greater community impact.

The secretariat of the association is now in the hands of Sarah Kandi, who was elected Secretary, and Helen Joshua, who takes over as Assistant Secretary. Members believe their roles will be key in ensuring effective documentation and smooth coordination of activities.

For financial management, Regina Gyang Sambo was elected Treasurer, while Simi Stephen will serve as Financial Secretary. Both are tasked with maintaining transparency and accountability in handling the district’s resources.

In the area of public engagement, three women emerged as Public Relations Officers: Eunice Botrus (PRO I), Ruth Jonathan (PRO II), and Paulina Dauda Kangyang (PRO III). They will drive communication, advocacy, and information-sharing within and beyond the district.

The peaceful polls were widely commended by stakeholders and members, who described the process as a reflection of BEWDA’s democratic culture and commitment to fairness.

With this new leadership, Gyel District is expected to push forward BEWDA’s broader vision of promoting peace, unity, empowerment, and cultural identity among Berom women, while also contributing to the development of the larger community.

Jesse Jagz Stands Tall as One of Nigeria’s Most Original Artists

    0

In Nigeria’s ever-evolving music industry, Jesse Jagz has remained one of the few artists who refuse to follow trends. Known as the “Emperor of Jagz Nation,” he has built a legacy rooted in originality, creativity, and fearless experimentation. His artistry has set him apart as one of Nigeria’s most unique voices.

    A Creative Force From J-Town

Hailing from Jos, Plateau State, Jesse Jagz rose to prominence as a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. From his early years, it was clear that he was not content with simply making music for entertainment. Instead, he sought to bend genres, explore sounds, and create art that would leave a lasting mark on listeners.

    Genre-Bending Sounds

Jesse’s music is a fusion of hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, and Afro-fusion. But what makes his sound extraordinary is the way he blends these elements into a deeply expressive and experimental style. His projects are not just albums; they are journeys through soundscapes that challenge conventional expectations in Nigerian music.

    Music With Meaning

At the core of Jesse Jagz’s songs lies depth and consciousness. His lyrics often explore spirituality, African identity, and social commentary. He has never shied away from addressing real issues in his music, making him an uncompromising artist whose work resonates far beyond the dance floor.

    The Producer’s Touch

Aside from being a performer, Jesse is widely celebrated for his production skills. His beats are layered with innovation, often pushing the boundaries of what Nigerian hip-hop and Afro-fusion can sound like. This mastery has drawn comparisons with global icons, underscoring his status as a visionary artist.

    A Rebel With Legacy

Jesse’s career has been marked by bold decisions, from leaving major labels to founding Jagz Nation. These choices reflect his desire to remain authentic and in control of his craft. Though unconventional, his rebellious spirit has only strengthened his reputation as a true original.

    Standing Tall in Nigerian Music

More than a decade into his career, Jesse Jagz remains an inspiration to artists and fans alike. His unmatched creativity, fearless independence, and ability to reinvent himself have ensured his place in history as one of Nigeria’s most original musicians.

Plateau Youth, Influencers Champion Religious Harmony Both Online and Offline

    0

Plateau youth and influencers are taking the lead in promoting religious harmony by creating safe spaces for dialogue and understanding, both online and offline, to strengthen peaceful coexistence across communities.

In his welcome address, Kaura Joshua, Project Officer of the Youth CARE Project, stressed the need for people to broaden their understanding of religion beyond Christianity and Islam. He pointed out that there are over 4,200 religions worldwide, a fact many are unaware of, and emphasized that such knowledge is vital in building tolerance and respect.

Joshua added that religion should not only be seen as a means of worship but also as a tool for peace and unity. He urged participants to use the dialogue for internal reflection and inter-religious thinking, embracing diversity as a path to peaceful coexistence.

Given an overview of the theme, “Bridging the Faith Divide – Online & Offline,” Blessing Dodo, Team Lead for Plateau Micro-influencers, noted that misinformation and bias online often fuel division when people share content based on sentiments tied to their faith without verifying the facts. She warned that such narratives can easily escalate into real life crises.

She explained that the program seeks to promote dialogue, respect, and tolerance among different faiths. Dodo urged participants to commit to peace both online and offline, stressing that unity and understanding are key to countering hate and violence.

Kenneth Dakop, Team Lead on Strategic Communication at the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, delivered a keynote on “Unity as Everyday Practice” under Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB). He stressed that freedom of religion must go hand in hand with tolerance and responsibility.

He cautioned against preaching religious superiority, noting it divides communities. Dakop urged youths to respect all faiths, including African traditional religions, and advised that religious leaders should undergo peacebuilding and conflict-sensitivity training before being licensed.

Dakop also warned that unregulated sermons can incite violence. He called for government oversight of religious messages and encouraged young people to embrace education, empowerment, and commerce as everyday tools for unity.

Godwin Okoko, Head of Programme Implementation at Search for Common Ground, noted that while religion is often used to fuel conflicts, the real causes lie in ethnicity, land, and history. He urged young people to rise above these divides and use their voices to promote peace, tolerance, and unity.

The event featured a panel discussion on “Bridging the Faith Divide – Online & Offline” which brought together Salis Mohammad Abdulsalam, Stephen Zuma Jang, Ada Ohaba, and Hamza Yakubu, who shared insights on promoting tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence through both social media and community engagement.

Participants said they would take the lessons back to their communities, with Assumpta Chidera stressing the need to show love rather than mere tolerance, respect others’ beliefs, and avoid spreading false news online, while Ibrahim Aliyu Ibni-Salihu emphasized that peace is vital for unity and development and urged everyone to contribute to sustaining it.

Nentok Israel Mallah, a youth leader from Federal Low Cost, said he learned the importance of loving and understanding people of other faiths rather than just tolerating them and promised to share the message of peace with his community, while Maryam Ibrahim noted that the training taught her the value of religious integration, humanity, and peaceful coexistence, which she is committed to practicing and passing on to others.

Bagos Gets Massive Endorsement from Northern Zone Youths for Senate

    0
Youths from across the six local governments of Plateau North Senatorial Zone have called on Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos to contest for the Senate seat in the 2027 general elections. In a unanimous resolution, the youths adopted the former member of the Federal House of Representatives, who represented Jos South/Jos East constituency, as their sole candidate. They said his track record at the National Assembly has placed him ahead of other aspirants for the position. According to the statement, the youths outlined Bagos’s interventions in education, youth empowerment, women development, and other sectors as the reasons behind their adoption. “Because vision resonates with the aspirations of youths in the Northern Zone,” the statement read. The youths further pledged to return to their various communities and electoral wards to mobilize wider support for both Hon. Bagos and the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. “Bagos has our unwavering support and dedication to the movement,” they declared. In his response, Hon. Bagos expressed gratitude, saying, “I will not fail you. Elect leaders that deliver the dividends of leadership as the one being exhibited by our leader and governor, His Excellency Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.” He also urged the youths to continue supporting the governor, noting, “See that you support His Excellency, the Governor, to continue with his laudable and impactful leadership of providing people of Plateau State with what they need.” The event also featured a panel discussion on the progress of Plateau North Senatorial District and music performances by different artists.

Internet Fraudsters Fund Many Nigerian Artists – M.I Claims

    0

Veteran rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I Abaga, has claimed that internet fraudsters fund a significant portion of the Nigerian music industry.

According to him, it is an indictment on Nigeria as a nation that most of the funding of the country’s music industry comes from the West and from fraudsters.

He insisted that Nigeria needs to do better in terms of funding for the creative industry.

M.I featured as a guest in a recent episode of the ‘So Nigerian’ podcast.

“There are a lot of controversies when people talk about Yahoo Yahoo, because a lot of artists that is the funding that they have. What I’m trying to say is that it’s an indictment on our country that we have such talented musicians and that the major funding for the industry comes from the West and the fraud industry. It’s an indictment. It shows that something is wrong. Hopefully, we can do better,” he said.

The rapper urged wealthy Nigerians to step up and fund the country’s musical talents, stressing that young people are currently the only ones supporting other young people financially in the Nigerian music industry.
