The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has strongly condemned the killing of seven Berom youths who were brutally murdered at a mining site in the Kuru District axis of Plateau State. The association described the incident as barbaric and a direct attack on peace and security in Berom land.
In a statement issued on January 22, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, BYM said the victims were peace-loving youths who were engaged in legitimate means of livelihood before their lives were violently cut short by armed Fulani terrorist elements.
BYM noted that the attack represents a grave violation of the sanctity of human life and an affront to the collective dignity of the Berom people, stressing that innocent youths should not continue to pay the price of insecurity.
The association also recalled a previous ambush that occurred on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in Gyel District, which claimed the lives of two persons. According to BYM, the repeated nature of these attacks points to a worsening security situation across Berom communities.
BYM expressed deep concern over what it described as a clear pattern of coordinated attacks, warning that the trend underscores the urgent need for decisive and sustained security intervention in affected areas.
The youth body extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for comfort, strength, and fortitude for them during this period of grief, while also wishing eternal rest for the departed souls.
BYM called on the Plateau State Government, the Federal Government, and relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the attacks, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators and their sponsors, and reinforce security around vulnerable communities, mining sites, and access routes.
The association further urged authorities to intensify intelligence gathering, deploy well-equipped security personnel, and adopt proactive, community-based security measures to prevent further loss of lives, insisting that the protection of Berom youths remains non-negotiable.
BYM reaffirmed its solidarity with the affected families and communities and reiterated its commitment to justice, peace, accountability, and the defense of the lives and dignity of the Berom people.
