Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia Signs Electricity Bill Into Law to Boost Power Supply

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has signed the Benue State Electricity Bill into law, marking a significant step toward improving electricity generation, distribution, and regulation across the state.

The new legislation is expected to provide a legal framework that will enable the state government to attract investment into the power sector, expand electricity access, and address energy challenges affecting residents and businesses. The move follows ongoing efforts by the Benue State Government to strengthen infrastructure and promote economic development.

The law aligns with recent constitutional and policy reforms that allow states to play a more active role in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. Stakeholders believe the development could open opportunities for independent power projects and improve electricity supply in underserved communities across Benue State.

Governor Alia said the new law would help create a more efficient and sustainable electricity sector capable of supporting industrial growth, job creation, and improved living standards for citizens.

Industry experts have noted that the legislation could encourage private-sector participation in the state’s energy market, helping to bridge existing power supply gaps and accelerate development in both urban and rural areas.

Residents and businesses are expected to benefit from increased investments in electricity infrastructure as the state moves to implement the provisions of the new law.

The signing of the bill represents another milestone in Benue State’s efforts to modernize critical sectors and create an enabling environment for economic growth and investment.
