Plateau Government Arraigns Five Over Angwa Rukuba Killings

    0

In what many observers are describing as a decisive move toward justice, the Plateau State Government has formally arraigned five suspects in connection with the tragic killings that rocked Angwa Rukuba in March 2026.

The suspects Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (popularly known as Auwalu Dogo), Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (aka Yaroro), Ado Ibrahim, and Adamu Isa Alhassan were brought before the court following their arrest by security operatives in early April.

According to official reports, the first four defendants are facing charges related to criminal conspiracy and terrorism. However, the fifth suspect, Adamu Isa Alhassan, is confronting a more severe set of allegations, including culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, and illegal arms trafficking charges that underscore the gravity of the incident and the scale of the alleged operation behind it.

The arrests were carried out between April 3 and April 10, 2026, in what appears to have been a coordinated security effort aimed at tracking down those responsible for the violence that claimed innocent lives in Jos North.

For residents of Plateau State, the arraignment represents more than just a procedural step it is a test of the government’s resolve to confront insecurity and ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied. The Angwa Rukuba killings had sparked widespread concern, reigniting conversations around community safety, intelligence gathering, and the need for sustained peacebuilding efforts in the region.

While the arraignment marks progress, it is only the beginning of what could be a lengthy judicial process. Legal analysts note that the prosecution will need to present compelling evidence to secure convictions, especially given the seriousness of the charges involved.

As the case unfolds, citizens and stakeholders alike will be watching closely not just for verdicts, but for reassurance that the justice system can effectively respond to acts of violence and deter future occurrences.

For now, the message from the authorities is clear: accountability is underway, and the wheels of justice are in motion.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is reportedly preparing to resign from his position to pursue his ambition of becoming governor of Oyo State in the 2027 election.

According to sources within the Presidency and the minister’s circle, Adelabu is expected to submit his resignation either on Wednesday or before the end of the week, subject to final confirmation.

The minister reportedly met with President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, where he formally communicated his  political aspirations. Although the meeting was not publicly disclosed in detail, insiders said the President was briefed on his plans and performance in office.

A close associate of the minister said his exit is now “certain,” noting that Adelabu had already informed the President of his intention to contest for the governorship seat in Oyo State.

The development comes despite the Federal Government’s March 31 deadline requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign from office.

Adelabu, who previously led the APC governorship campaign in Oyo State and contested under the Accord Party in 2023, is now expected to seek the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 polls.

The party has already fixed its governorship primary for May 23, 2026, with nomination forms pegged at N50 million. Sales of forms are scheduled to run from April 25 to May 2.

If he officially enters the race, Adelabu will join other aspirants, including Senator Sarafadeen Alli of Oyo South and Oyedele Alao (popularly known as “Allow Alao”), in the contest for the APC ticket.

Party stakeholders are expected to intensify consultations in the coming weeks as the race for the Oyo governorship begins to gather momentum.

EFCC Warns Public Over Rising Impersonation of Officers by Fraudsters

    0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raised alarm over the increasing activities of criminals impersonating its personnel across parts of the country.

In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the Commission said intelligence reports indicate that fraudulent individuals are adopting various deceptive tactics to mislead and extort members of the public while damaging the agency’s reputation.

According to the EFCC, some of the impostors operate around popular restaurants and entertainment centres in major cities, where they allegedly target young people leaving such venues. The suspects reportedly accuse victims of being internet fraudsters, intimidate them, and dispossess them of their valuables.

The Commission also warned that some of these criminals wear fake insignia and transport victims to locations falsely presented as EFCC offices, where they continue the impersonation and extortion.

In addition, the agency cautioned against online content creators who stage fake EFCC “sting operations” using staged scenes such as broken doors and forced entries to mislead the public.

The statement further highlighted cases of armed gangs stopping motorists, questioning them based on vehicle plate numbers, and extorting money under false accusations.

The EFCC urged Nigerians to be vigilant and verify any encounter involving alleged operatives, stressing that its officers operate strictly under established procedures and lawful protocols.

It added that while the Commission remains committed to tackling financial and economic crimes, citizens must not allow criminal impersonators to undermine public trust in its operations.

Renewed Hope Scale-Up Grant: A Strategic Leap for Youth Empowerment in Nigeria

    2

In a time when youth empowerment has become both an economic necessity and a social imperative, the Renewed Hope Scale-Up Grant emerges as a bold and timely intervention designed to unlock entrepreneurial potential and stimulate sustainable growth across Nigeria.

Scheduled to hold on 29th April 2026 by 10:00 AM at Crispan Hotel & Suites, this initiative represents more than just financial assistance it is a structured commitment to nurturing innovation, supporting enterprise expansion, and fostering long-term economic resilience among young Nigerians.

    A Vision Anchored in Empowerment

At its core, the programme reflects a deliberate policy direction towards inclusive development. By targeting both existing businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs, the initiative ensures a dual-impact approach:

    • Strengthening already established ventures through scale-up funding
    • Equipping new entrants with startup support packages

This balanced framework is particularly significant in addressing unemployment and underemployment, which continue to challenge Nigeria’s youthful population.

    Financial Commitment with Real Impact

The headline figure ₦300 million support fund is not merely symbolic. It signals a serious investment in human capital development and enterprise sustainability. For beneficiaries, this translates into:

Plateau Youth G-17 Demands Urgent Security Reforms, Calls for Immediate Creation of State Police

    0

The Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum has called for urgent security reforms, urging the immediate establishment of state police to tackle rising insecurity in Plateau State and across Nigeria.

In a press release dated April 1, 2026, the Forum expressed strong concern over the persistent attacks on communities, describing the situation as alarming and unacceptable.

The group noted that for years, residents of Plateau State have continued to face recurring violence, with many lives lost despite repeated assurances from authorities.

According to the Forum, innocent citizens are being attacked in their homes, farms, and places of worship, while responses from security agencies often come too late.

The youth body highlighted what it described as a dangerous and predictable pattern of attacks, including coordinated assaults on vulnerable communities and poor security presence in affected areas.

It stressed that Nigeria’s centralized policing system has proven ineffective in addressing localized security challenges.

“We say clearly: the current security structure is insufficient,” the statement said.

The Forum argued that decisions on security are often made far from affected communities, leaving residents exposed to threats.

It maintained that a one-size-fits-all approach can no longer address the unique security realities in Plateau State.

The group therefore called on the Federal Government to urgently initiate and fast-track constitutional amendments for the establishment of state police.

“This is not a political luxury; it is a matter of survival,” the Forum stated.

The Forum explained that state police would ensure quicker response to attacks, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen trust between security personnel and local communities.

It added that decentralizing the security system would ease the burden on federal forces and enhance overall coordination.

The group also criticized what it described as a cycle of “condolences without action,” insisting that words alone are no longer enough.

“We reject a system that reacts only after lives have been lost,” the statement added.

The Forum further urged the Plateau State Government to take proactive steps by developing frameworks for state policing and strengthening local security outfits such as Operation Rainbow.

It called on citizens to remain vigilant and continue to demand accountability from leaders at all levels.

The statement was signed by Joshua Longji Sati, Leader of the Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum, who emphasized that the time for decisive action is now.

The Forum concluded by warning that continued delay in reforming the security system could worsen the situation, stressing that the establishment of state police is critical to ending the cycle of violence.

Bum Residents of Riyom LGA Unite to Implement Peace Agreements, Restore Security

    0

Residents of Bum community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State have united to implement existing peace agreements as part of a renewed effort to restore security and rebuild trust between farmers and pastoralists after years of violent conflict.

The commitment followed a Social Cohesion Workshop facilitated by the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP), held on February 14, 2026, at Government Secondary School Bum. The engagement examined how community-led implementation of peace agreements can strengthen security and support long-term development.

For more than two decades, repeated clashes between farmers and pastoralists in Bum disrupted livelihoods, displaced families, and undermined social harmony. Community members say the insecurity also limited agricultural productivity and economic activities across the area.

At the workshop, farmers, pastoralists, traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youths, and peace advocates engaged in dialogue and jointly developed implementation strategies for eleven peace agreements, marking a shift from dialogue to concrete action.

Addressing participants, Amb. Nanribet Simon Longvwam, a 2025/2026 Fellow of COFP, described the process as a decisive step toward sustainable security, emphasizing that peace can only endure when communities collectively own and protect agreed frameworks.

“These agreements are commitments to coexistence, mutual respect, and shared responsibility for security and development,” Longvwam said.

He highlighted the inclusive nature of the engagement, noting that women and youths—often the most affected by conflict—were fully involved in designing the implementation strategies, while traditional leaders reaffirmed their roles as custodians of peace.

Longvwam added that the initiative reflects the peacebuilding vision of COFP and the enduring legacy of John Onaiyekan, whose commitment to interfaith dialogue continues to inspire grassroots peace efforts.

Participants expressed optimism that faithful implementation, monitoring, and accountability of the agreements would restore security, prevent renewed violence, and usher in a new era of stability and cooperation in Bum community.
