On December 3rd and 4th, Crest Centre for Peace and Social Advancement (CCPSA) had the privilege of celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities an event that truly touched our hearts and will remain in our memories for years to come.

These two days were not just about marking a day on the calendar, but about celebrating the resilience, strength, and incredible talents of persons with disabilities. It was a time for all of us to come together in solidarity, to listen, learn, and most importantly, to celebrate the wonderful contributions of individuals who often face unimaginable challenges with unshakable courage and grace.

The first day of the event set the tone for what would be an unforgettable experience. Over 300 participants—ranging from persons with disabilities to community leaders, friends, and advocates—gathered at Rwang Pam Township Stadium In collaboration with Dream Africa, we created a space where everyone could feel seen, heard, and empowered. The atmosphere was electric with excitement, as people of all backgrounds came together to share in the celebration.

One of the most powerful moments of the day was the para-soccer competition, where athletes showcased not just skill, but sheer determination. It was a heart-pounding reminder that disability doesn’t define potential—it only amplifies it. The competition was followed by a musical performance that left the audience in awe. The talent on display was nothing short of amazing, and we were all reminded that talent knows no bounds.

From the athletes on the field to the performers on stage, it was clear that the day was about far more than just fun. It was about acknowledging the strength and resilience of persons with disabilities and honoring their contributions to society in ways that are often overlooked.

Day 2: Interability Dialogue – Bridging Gaps, Creating Change

The second day took on a more reflective tone but was no less impactful. Held at the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) hall, the Interability Dialogue brought together passionate voices from a range of backgrounds—community leaders, disability advocates, and representatives from organizations committed to creating a more inclusive society.

In this space, we had real conversations about the issues facing persons with disabilities today. We discussed the barriers that continue to limit access to education, employment, and healthcare. But it wasn’t just about talking—it was about taking action. The dialogue reminded us all that we each have a role to play in creating a more accessible and inclusive world. Every individual, and every organization, has the power to advocate for change, challenge misconceptions, and push for policies that truly support people with disabilities.

As the dialogue concluded, the message was clear: this is just the beginning**. The call to action was loud and strong—let’s not wait for change to happen. Let’s be the change, in our communities, our workplaces, and our lives.

A Celebration to Remember: Building a Future Together

As we reflect on the two days of celebration, it’s impossible not to feel deeply moved. This event was more than a celebration—it was a reminder that resilience is a shared experience. We celebrated the strength of the disability community, but we also celebrated all of us coming together to make that strength visible. The feedback we received from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how empowered and inspired they felt. It was clear that this event was not just an occasion, but a turning point—a moment when we all reimagined what a truly inclusive world could look like.

We are proud of what we achieved together, but we know that the work is far from over. CCPSA remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the rights, dignity, and empowerment of persons with disabilities. We will continue to raise our voices, push for change, and create opportunities for everyone to thrive.

A Call to Action from Our Executive Director, Amb. Nafisat AbdulAzeez

As we reflect on these moments of joy, connection, and reflection, I, Ambassador Nafisat AbdulAzeez, Executive Director of CCPSA, urge everyone to take the lessons learned from this event and carry them forward. This is a movement that requires all of us—together—united in our pursuit of a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities.

It’s easy to become passive or think that change is something for others to lead. But the truth is, each of us has a role to play. Whether it’s advocating for accessible spaces, challenging stigma, or simply offering support and understanding to someone with a disability, the smallest actions can create ripple effects that bring about real change.

Let’s not wait for change to happen; let’s be the change. Be the voice that advocates for accessibility, the hands that help break barriers and the heart that welcomes everyone into a truly inclusive world. We can and must do better, and together, we will.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Let’s continue to work towards a future where everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
