Kano Influencer Danshagamu Killed: Police Arrest Two Suspects

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of popular social media influencer and political commentator Ibrahim Khalil, popularly known as Danshagamu.

Police also confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the killing, which occurred at Gaida Quarters in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2026.

The police said suspected hoodlums allegedly forced their way into Danshagamu’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.

A distress report was subsequently received from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group, prompting the deployment of officers from the Kumbotso Police Division to the scene.

Danshagamu was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.

Police Arrest Two Suspects

The Kano Police Command said two suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Kumbotso Police Division in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are being interrogated as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Police said efforts are also ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals who may have been involved in the incident. Forensic procedures are being conducted as authorities investigate the motive behind the attack.

Who Was Danshagamu?

Danshagamu was known in Kano as a social media influencer, video creator and political commentator. He built a significant following on platforms including Facebook and TikTok through his commentary on political, religious and community issues.

Before becoming a full-time commentator, he reportedly worked as a reporter for a local radio station.

Governor Orders Investigation

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and prosecute everyone responsible for the killing.

The governor described the incident as shocking and unacceptable and appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The police command has also increased patrols and intelligence-gathering operations in Gaida and surrounding communities.

Investigation into the killing remains ongoing, with the police saying the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
