The controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Primaries for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency took a dramatic turn following an official clarification by the Chairman of the Plateau APC Primaries Electoral Committee, Stella Okotete.

Okotete stated that the earlier announcement claiming that Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi lost the primaries was made by unauthorized persons and should not be regarded as the authentic position of the party.

According to her, only Barr. Nandom Andrew Kura, the duly appointed returning officer for the PKK APC primaries, has the legal authority to announce the official results of the election.

Notably, Barr. Nandom Andrew Kura is the same returning officer who officially declared Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi as the winner of the PKK APC House of Representatives Primaries, thereby reinforcing the legitimacy of the result earlier announced in Gagdi’s favour.

The clarification is expected to calm tensions among party supporters and stakeholders following widespread circulation of conflicting reports regarding the outcome of the primaries.

Political observers say the development has further strengthened the position of Gagdi, whose supporters had consistently maintained that only the officially designated returning officer could validly declare the outcome of the exercise.

The PKK APC primaries remain one of the most closely watched political contests in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
