He described the moment as timely, declaring that “the time is now” for purposeful and strategic political action.

Nigerian musician Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, has recalled his experience during the 2001 Jos Crisis, describing the violence as extreme and deeply traumatic.

The rapper, who was still young at the time, said the events of the crisis remain clear in his memory because of how dangerous and widespread the conflict became.

Speaking on Echoo Room with actor Teddy A, Ice Prince explained that the crisis went beyond isolated clashes, turning Jos into a battleground.

According to him, both churches and mosques were allegedly involved in sharing weapons as people armed themselves to survive the violence.

He said the streets were filled with horrifying scenes, including severed body parts left in public places as a result of the fighting.

Ice Prince noted that despite the scale and brutality of the crisis, it received little attention from the media at the time.

He described the situation as a full-scale war that left permanent scars on those who witnessed it firsthand.

“Those who know of the Jos Crisis will tell you that I am not capping. I was young then. Churches were sharing guns, mosques were sharing guns, because it was a serious thing; this was a full-blown war,” he said.

He added, “You would see heads on the ground, legs on the ground and stuff like that, but it was so underreported.”

The musician’s account has reignited conversations about the impact of the Jos Crisis and the long-lasting trauma it caused residents of Plateau State.

A New Political Direction Is Inevitable’ — Hon. Bagos Speaks on PDP Implosion

    0

Former lawmaker Rt. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos has declared that the collapse of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level has made a new political direction unavoidable for Plateau State. He said the party’s deepening internal crisis has rendered it incapable of safeguarding the political future of the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

Bagos stated that the situation in the PDP has deteriorated to a point where serious leaders can no longer remain silent, noting that Plateau cannot afford another season of confusion, disunity, and structural failure.

He warned that the instability in the party poses a major threat to Plateau’s political progress, especially at a time when clarity and strong national alignment are crucial.

“The party has lost the national structure, unity, and organizational discipline required to support credible candidates in a general election. The most basic question remains unanswered: Who is leading the PDP at the national level? Is it the Turaki-led faction or the Abdularam-led faction? A political party that cannot resolve its own leadership cannot defend the mandate of its candidates, nor can it offer stability to its members across the country.”

“For me in Plateau State, this crisis is not just an Abuja conversation—we have tasted the consequences before. We remember the confusion, abandonment, and lack of coordination that crippled our efforts after the 2023 elections that we were all removed from office through the courts for lack of structure. Our people suffered for it. Our political stability suffered. And our collective mandate was exposed due to internal disunity at the national level.”

“We cannot afford to take the Plateau people through that same painful experience again. Not in 2027. Not at a time when our politics demands clarity, strength, and national alignment.”

Bagos stressed that Plateau deserves a coherent and disciplined political platform—one capable of defending votes, supporting candidates, and providing national presence that ensures stability.

He said the current realities demand strategic thinking, not emotional attachment, adding that the survival of Plateau’s political relevance depends on choosing a stronger and more unified platform.

Bagos urged PDP leaders and stakeholders in Plateau to reassess the situation honestly and act in the best interest of the state, rather than allowing sentiment to overshadow reality.

He concluded that a new political direction for Plateau is “not just necessary but inevitable,” emphasizing that the future of the state must be secured on the foundation of unity, stability, and forward-looking leadership.

Group Condemns ‘Political Genocide’ Narrative Against Ngas Ethnic Group, Says Governorship Seat Open to All Plateau Citizens

    0

    Jos, Plateau State — December 10, 2025.

The Youth in Politics group in Plateau State has raised alarm over what it describes as a “dangerous political narrative” aimed at excluding the Ngas ethnic group from contesting the 2027 governorship election. The group made its position known during a world press conference held at Great Links Hotel in Jos on Wednesday.

Reading the statement on behalf of the group, Convener Comrade Golu Nenfort warned that attempts to push the Ngas ethnic group out of the governorship race amount to what he termed “political genocide,” arguing that such divisive tactics threaten the unity and stability of Plateau State.

Nenfort described the circulating narrative as a calculated attempt by “selfish individuals” to suppress the political aspirations of a major ethnic group under the guise of protecting the interests of the Mwaghavul nation. He accused some political actors of Mwaghavul extraction of promoting the exclusionary rhetoric and said the group would “name and shame” those responsible if the trend continues.

The group dismissed claims that the Ngas should not produce the next governor because one of their sons, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, currently serves as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Nenfort, the argument is “fundamentally flawed,” noting that the position is national in scope and not equivalent to holding political control within the state.

He argued that the Mwaghavul ethnic group currently occupies the most influential elected positions in Plateau Central: Governor: Caleb Mutfwang (PDP), Senator, Plateau Central: Diket Plang (APC), Member, House of Representatives (Mangu/Bokkos): Dr. Ishaya Lalu

Nenfort said this concentration of power has not led to calls for their exclusion, adding that applying a different standard to the Ngas is unjust and inconsistent with Plateau’s long history of balancing power among diverse ethnic groups.

Addressing the ongoing political turbulence in the state, including internal PDP disputes and recent defections, the group maintained that every Plateau citizen holds the constitutional right to contest for governor.

“The governorship seat belongs to all Plateau citizens,” Nenfort said. “Leadership should be decided by competence, vision, and the will of the people, not ethnic arithmetic.”

The Youth in Politics group urged the Ngas Development Association and the Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN) to discourage growing ethnic-based political rhetoric. According to them, allowing such narratives to fester could sow seeds of long-term discord.

They emphasized that the future of the state depends on inclusion and equal political opportunity for all ethnic groups.

Nenfort concluded by insisting that Plateau State can only progress when all groups feel represented and valued.

“Let every Plateau son and daughter, including the Ngas, step forward based on merit and vision,” he said.

BREAKING: 8 UNIJOS Students Die in Ghastly Motor Accident on Zaria Road

    0

A tragic accident in the early hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, has claimed the lives of eight students of the University of Jos. The students were reportedly returning from a night out when their bus was involved in a fatal crash along the Zaria Road corridor in Jos.

According to information gathered from two surviving passengers—who sustained only minimal injuries—the group had hired two buses after leaving a club around 2:00 a.m. The survivors, seated at the back of one of the buses, explained that the impact barely reached their section, allowing them to escape with limited harm.

They narrated that just after passing the Zaria Road Stadium, a speeding trailer rammed into their bus from behind. The force of the collision caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle careening into an electric pole near the Farin Gada bridge. The violent impact reportedly tore the bus apart, resulting in the instant death of the driver and seven students.

Grim video footage provided by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the mortuary confirms the severity of the accident, showing severely disfigured bodies and catastrophic injuries.

The second bus hired by the students was not involved in the crash and safely transported the remaining passengers back to their destination.

The driver of the trailer fled the scene and remains unidentified and untraceable as of the time of filing this report.

This tragic incident has thrown the University of Jos community into mourning.
