The Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, has emphasized that women remain a vital force in governance and must never be underestimated in leadership and decision-making.

She made this known during a strategic meeting with female appointees of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, convened to promote unity and strengthen support for the “Time Is Now” administration.

Hon. Piyo expressed appreciation to the Governor for his deliberate and commendable efforts in promoting gender balance, noting that the inclusion of women in governance reflects confidence in their abilities and contributions.

The Deputy Governor charged the female appointees to remain united and focused, describing unity, loyalty, and collaboration as key pillars for building a stronger and more cohesive state.

She further urged them to fully support the “Time Is Now” administration, noting that collective responsibility is necessary for the success of government policies and programmes.

Education Commissioner Encouraged by Compliance as Plateau Schools Reopen

    0

The Plateau State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Kachollom Gang, has expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance recorded as schools across the state reopened for academic activities following a temporary closure over security concerns.

Speaking to journalists after monitoring the resumption of schools in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas, the commissioner described the turnout of students and teachers as encouraging, noting that it reflected the commitment of school authorities to government directives.

It will be recalled that the Plateau State Government had earlier shut down schools as a precautionary measure in response to prevailing security challenges. With improved security arrangements and proactive interventions, the government later directed all public and private schools to resume normal academic activities.

Hon. Gang, who was represented during the monitoring exercise by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Sadia Yaro, commended school managements and students for their readiness and cooperation.

“We are impressed with the school management and the students. I want to encourage them to continue this because they have shown their commitment,” she said, adding that the government is determined to reduce disruptions to the academic calendar.

She further stressed that the ministry remains focused on ensuring students are well prepared for their examinations despite the interruption caused by the earlier closure.

Schools visited during the monitoring exercise included Saint John’s College, Government Secondary School Anglo Jos, Majesty International Academy Zarmaganda, and Government Secondary School Kuwi, all within the Jos metropolis.

Bill to Expand Local Government Structure in Plateau Clears Second Reading

    0

A bill seeking to expand the local government structure in Plateau State has successfully passed second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill is sponsored by Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, former Deputy Speaker of the House, and is aimed at improving grassroots governance and service delivery across the state.

Presenting the proposal, Wase said the bill addresses long-standing issues of accessibility, equity, and development, particularly in remote and underserved communities.

He explained that the creation of additional Local Government Areas would bring government closer to the people and make local administration more effective.

According to him, smaller and more manageable councils would enhance the delivery of essential services such as primary healthcare, basic education, and rural infrastructure.

Wase also noted that the bill would promote fairness and inclusion among communities and ethnic groups, helping to address concerns of marginalisation.

Supporters of the bill argued that expanding the number of LGAs would boost political participation and improve representation for Plateau State at both state and federal levels.

The proposal further highlighted economic benefits, including a potential increase in the state’s share of federal allocations.

Proponents added that new LGAs would be better positioned to harness local resources, develop agriculture, and stimulate local economies.

With the bill now clearing second reading, it will proceed to further legislative stages for detailed consideration and public scrutiny in the House of Representatives.

Rudeboy Defends Psquare Legacy, Says Most New Songs Don’t Last

    0

Singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy of the iconic music duo Psquare, has spoken strongly in defense of the group’s legacy, insisting that most contemporary songs lack longevity.

According to Rudeboy, he and his twin brother, Peter Okoye, created some of the most valuable and timeless songs in Africa. He noted that many Psquare hits released in 2005, 2008, and 2012 are still widely played today and continue to connect with audiences across generations.

The singer clarified that his comments were not meant to discredit artists of the current generation. However, he maintained that a large percentage of today’s music fades quickly, with many songs losing relevance within a few months of release.

Rudeboy also expressed concern about the content of some modern songs, stating that certain tracks are not suitable for family listening, especially around children. In contrast, he said Psquare’s music was created to be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age.

Emphasizing the durability of their catalogue, Rudeboy said Psquare’s songs have stood the test of time and will likely remain relevant for many decades to come.

His remarks have since generated widespread reactions online, with fans and music lovers debating the issue of timelessness in today’s music and reaffirming Psquare’s place among Africa’s greatest musical acts.

    0

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the approval of 1,000 Forest Guards for Plateau State to strengthen security and tackle insecurity, especially in forested and rural areas.

The Governor disclosed this during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Thanksgiving and Interdenominational Church Service held at Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral, Laranto, Jos.

Governor Mutfwang praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the Forest Guards, describing the move as a bold step toward improving grassroots security and supporting ongoing military and security operations in the state.

He explained that the Forest Guards will help improve intelligence gathering, protect farmlands, and prevent criminal activities within forest areas, thereby enhancing the safety of communities across Plateau State.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies to ensure lasting peace, adding that the Forest Guards will complement the efforts of the Armed Forces and other security outfits.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of serving and fallen members of the Armed Forces, noting that the relative peace enjoyed during the recent festive period was a result of their dedication and professionalism.

Governor Mutfwang assured residents that his government will continue to support security personnel and prioritise measures that promote peace, stability, and development in Plateau State.

Jang Dismisses Claims He Asked Mutfwang to Resign

    0

Former Plateau State Governor and Senator, Dr. Jonah David Jang, has dismissed reports claiming that he called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign from office.

In a press statement dated January 12, 2026, and signed by his Media Consultant, Comrade Clinton Garuba, Senator Jang described the reports circulating in some print and online media outlets as misleading and taken out of context.

According to the statement, at no point during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did the former governor ask Governor Mutfwang to step down. Rather, his remarks were directed at politicians who abandon their political parties to join others, a practice he criticised in general terms.

The statement stressed that Senator Jang’s comments were misrepresented, creating a false impression that he personally targeted the Plateau State governor.

Senator Jang therefore urged the people of Plateau State to disregard the misleading reports and avoid unnecessary political tension.

He also called on residents to continue supporting Governor Caleb Mutfwang as he carries out his responsibility of leading the state based on the mandate freely given to him by the people.

The former governor emphasised the need for responsible reporting and constructive political engagement in the interest of peace and development in Plateau State.

“Nigeria Risks ‘Appointments Disguised as Elections’ Ahead of 2027” — Hon. Barr. Seyilnen Luzu Raises Alarm

    0

Hon. Barr. Seyilnen Luzu has raised serious concerns over the direction of Nigeria’s democracy as the country moves toward the 2027 general elections. He warned that recent political developments could turn future elections into mere formalities rather than genuine contests.

Luzu, a prominent figure and aspirant for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the increasing wave of defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is unhealthy for democratic growth.

According to him, the mass movement of politicians, especially from opposition parties, is not accidental. He described it as a deliberate strategy to weaken opposing voices and dominate the political space ahead of 2027.

He cautioned that when opposition structures are dismantled, accountability suffers. “A deficiency of robust opposition poses a direct threat to our cherished democracy,” Luzu said, noting that citizens’ rights and choices would be undermined.

Warning of the consequences, he said Nigeria risks witnessing “appointments disguised as elections,” where outcomes are already determined before voters go to the polls. He stressed that such a situation would mark a major setback for democratic governance.

Luzu emphasized that democracy thrives on competition, ideas, and choice. He warned that allowing one political party to dominate the system could lead to complacency and authoritarian tendencies.

He called on Nigerians who value democracy to resist efforts to silence alternative voices. He urged politicians outside the ruling party to strengthen their platforms and work together to build a credible and principled opposition.

The ADC aspirant also advised opposition leaders to focus on policy-based criticism rather than emotional or self-serving attacks, saying integrity is key to earning public trust.

In conclusion, Luzu appealed to democrats in Plateau State and across Nigeria to protect the gains made since the return to civil rule. He said strong institutions and vibrant opposition parties are essential to ensuring free, fair, and meaningful elections in 2027.

Team Comes First: Mikel Obi Sends Strong Message to Osimhen

    0

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has sent a strong warning to Victor Osimhen, stressing the importance of teamwork in the national side.

Mikel Obi made the remarks while speaking on his podcast about a tense on-field incident involving Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.

The confrontation occurred during Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Osimhen was visibly angry after Lookman failed to release a pass during the match.

The striker later signalled to the bench, demanding to be substituted.

Mikel Obi criticised Osimhen for his reaction and body language on the pitch.

“The part where he stopped playing, running and making efforts; that part I don’t like,” Mikel said.

He added that football is always about the team, insisting that no individual is bigger than the Super Eagles.

Plateau Governor Urges Unity as APC Begins Digital Membership Registration

    0

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has thrown his weight behind the APC electronic membership registration exercise, describing it as an important step toward strengthening party unity and promoting development in Plateau State.

The Governor made this known during the official launch of the APC e-registration exercise, which brought together party leaders, stakeholders, and members from different parts of the state.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang said the digital registration would improve transparency, fairness, and internal democracy within the party.

He explained that the e-registration system would ensure proper documentation of members and give everyone a sense of belonging within the APC.

Governor Mutfwang urged party members to set aside political differences and work together in the interest of peace, stability, and progress in Plateau State.

According to him, unity among leaders and supporters remains the key to unlocking development and attracting more opportunities to the state.

The Governor advised party officials to conduct the registration exercise in a peaceful and orderly manner, ensuring that no one is excluded from the process.

He reassured women, youths, and persons with disabilities of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.

Governor Mutfwang also restated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that alignment with the federal government would bring more dividends of democracy to Plateau State.

It would be recalled that the Governor recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after wide consultations with political leaders and stakeholders.

After joining the APC, he formally received his membership card and pledged to work closely with the party leadership to reposition Plateau State for growth.

Speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described the e-registration exercise as timely and necessary for building a strong party structure.

Professor Yilwatda said the digital process would help the APC plan better, mobilize members effectively, and prepare for future elections.

He praised Governor Mutfwang for choosing unity over division and working in harmony with the party at both state and national levels.

The APC National Chairman called on party members to support the e-registration exercise, adding that a united APC would guarantee peace, development, and a better future for Plateau State.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said Plateau State will give President Bola Tinubu one million votes in the 2027 general elections.

He said this while speaking about the growing strength of the APC and the collapse of opposition parties in the state.

Prof. Yilwatda made the statement during an APC stakeholders’ meeting for the Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency.

The meeting was held in Pankshin, Plateau State, on Tuesday.

He said the APC is now much stronger in Plateau State than it was during the 2023 elections.

According to him, political forces that once challenged the party have now joined the APC.

“All the stumbling blocks we had in 2023 are no longer there,” he said.

“Those who opposed us then have joined us now, including the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, commissioners, local government chairmen and other political appointees.”

“With this, Plateau will deliver one million votes for Mr President,” he added.

Prof. Yilwatda said PKK is a traditional stronghold of the APC, noting that President Tinubu recorded some of his highest votes in the area during the 2023 presidential election.
