The Law Students’ Society (LSS), University of Jos, has successfully concluded its Essay Writing and Public Speaking Competition held in honour of Hon. Justice Bon Ngyou, bringing together talented law students in an intellectually stimulating contest centered on the future of the legal profession.

The competition, themed “Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Decision-Making: Innovation or Threat to Judicial Independence?”, provided a platform for participants to critically examine the growing role of artificial intelligence within judicial systems and its implications for justice administration, judicial autonomy, and legal practice.

The event featured impressive displays of legal scholarship, analytical reasoning, and advocacy as contestants competed in both the essay writing and public speaking categories.

Essay Writing Competition

  • Winner – Turna Lumi
  • 1st Runner-Up – Emmanuel Ebube
  • 2nd Runner-Up – Shiwa Mathew

Public Speaking Competition

  • Winner – Sibyl Dung
  • 1st Runner-Up – Bernard Iliya
  • 2nd Runner-Up – Esther Darlington

The competition formed part of efforts by the Law Students’ Society to promote academic excellence, legal research, public advocacy, and critical engagement with emerging issues affecting the administration of justice.

Beyond the prizes awarded, participants gained valuable experience in legal writing, public speaking, and intellectual discourse, reinforcing the Society’s commitment to producing future legal practitioners capable of addressing contemporary challenges in the justice sector.
